Romain Vicari (b. 1990) is the winner of the Prix Découverte des Amis du Palais de Tokyo (2016). Influenced by the language of the construction site, his practice is determined by the exploration of the territory and the will to maintain a state of ruin. His installations extend his approach of appropriation, fragmentation, and deconstruction, painting a picture of an underwater archaeology. He develops his practice in places that he considers to be dead architectures, non-places. The pieces he creates there are ephemeral because they share the same transitory aspect with these sites in perpetual mutation. The scale of these pieces is very important because they result from a physiological relationship of his body to the space. Their presence therefore has a certain human energy. The notions of scale, architecture, ruin and precarious equilibrium play a key role in his approach.
