Hatch gallery is pleased to announce its second participation at ARCOmadrid within the Opening section, presenting a solo show by Theresa Weber (Germany, b. 1996).

Rooted in her German and Jamaican heritage, Weber’s work embraces hybridity, collective rituals, and continuous transformation. Drawing from Édouard Glissant’s concepts of the rhizome and the archipelago, the artist rejects linear narratives of origin in favor of multiplicity, with Carnival as a central motif of her work —both as a space of resistance and reinvention—where the mask and labyrinth symbolize self-reinvention.

Specially conceived for ARCOmadrid 2025, With the Floats is a site-specific installation inspired by Junkanoo, a Caribbean masquerade tradition born from colonial resistance. Comprising five sculptural panels, three wearable costumes, and a large floor print, this immersive presentation creates a dynamic connection of references— water, land, and body—where materiality and history intertwine, positioning the body as both a network and a site of transformation. Through this installation, Weber reimagines Carnival as a space of resistance, reinvention, and collective storytelling —where bodies, traditions, and histories remain in perpetual transformation.
